Mixpanel launched in 2009 after completing the Y Combinator incubation program with the intention of providing a more intuitive, more sophisticated alternative to Google Analytics for the web. The company received seed funding in 2011 and raised a $10.3MM Series A round in 2012, having expanded into mobile in 2010. Mixpanel is based in San Francisco.

The two functional areas upon which Mixpanel places the most emphasis are real-time metrics and robust segmentation for the purposes of cohort analysis. The product is free up to 25,000 monthly data points tracked, scaling in price up to $2,000 per month for 20MM data points and with a customized pricing structure for 50MM data points and more.

From the company:

“Mixpanel’s mission is to help the world learn from its data. We’ve built the world’s most advanced analytics platform for mobile and web to help companies learn how people use their products and applications so they can grow their business. More than 1,000 businesses use Mixpanel to analyze 12+ billion actions every month to understand how their combined 225 million customers use their products.”
